What is evening primrose oil?
Evening primrose oil is a natural oil extracted from evening primrose seeds, rich in γ-linolenic acid (9%-10% GLA). The core component of evening primrose oil is γ-linolenic acid (GLA), a type of omega-6 fatty acid. GLA can be converted into prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) in the body, helping to regulate hormone secretion, reduce inflammatory responses, and maintain skin barrier function. In addition, evening primrose oil also contains fatty acids such as linoleic acid and oleic acid, which synergistically support cardiovascular and immune system health.
Applicable groups:
‌Hormone-related discomfort‌: Some studies have shown that evening primrose oil may relieve symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) (such as breast tenderness, mood swings) and menopausal discomfort.
‌Skin problems‌: Due to the anti-inflammatory properties of GLA, evening primrose oil is often used to improve eczema, acne, or dry skin problems, and some people get results through oral or topical use.
‌Chronic inflammation‌: Animal experiments have shown that it may help relieve arthritis or neuroinflammation, but human clinical evidence is limited.
Evening primrose oil (EPO) is often used to regulate hormone balance, relieve premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and improve skin health. It can be used to blend base oils and essential oils, has multiple therapeutic and whitening functions, and can be made into capsules for oral administration to treat cardiovascular disease, premenstrual syndrome, and menopausal syndrome. It can be used in aromatherapy to blend lotions and creams, improve eczema, psoriasis, help wound healing, nail development, and solve hair problems.
